Zoom and Mitel announce AI-first hybrid communications and collaboration solution
Zoom and Mitel’s hybrid cloud solution uses AI with enterprise telephony for seamless communication while maintaining control over existing infrastructure

Corporate communications have transformed with the rise of hybrid work, driving the need for solutions that seamlessly integrate voice, video and messaging.

As a result, organisations are now presented with the decision to choose between innovative cloud-native platforms and traditional on-premises systems known for their reliability and control.

From this tension between the old and the new, hybrid communications architectures have grown – these solutions combining the strengths of both cloud and on-premises capabilities, aiming to offer the best of both.

Recognising this market demand, Zoom and Mitel have launched a global hybrid cloud solution that integrates Zoom Workplace and Zoom AI Companion with Mitel's robust enterprise communications platforms.

Targeting enterprise needs for hybrid communications

Zoom and Mitel are aiming to meet the needs of organisations that wish to embrace AI but must also manage the complex challenges of maintaining secure and continuous business operations.

Mitel says that a striking 92% of mid-to-large enterprises are contemplating hybrid models for their communication systems – therefore, the partnership offers a solution tailored for hybrid unified communications deployments.

“As businesses navigate the connectivity requirements to support hybrid work, they need solutions that unite the benefits of on-prem or single-instance cloud communications infrastructure with Zoom's industry-leading collaboration experiences, giving them the best of both while future-proofing their organisations,” says Graeme Geddes, Chief Sales and Growth Officer at Zoom.

Furthermore, the initial launch integrates with Mitel's OpenScape Voice and OpenScape 4000 platforms, with plans to expand support to MiVoice Business solutions in the near future – and future integrations are set to include MiVoice 5000 and MX-ONE solutions by the end of 2025.

Additionally, device compatibility issues have been tactfully addressed with the Zoom Phone certification of the OpenScape CP and Mitel 6900 Series, ensuring a wide range of device support.

Enhancing communications with AI

The combined offering provides a seamless interface for communication, allowing users to escalate from a telephone call on Mitel's system directly into a Zoom meeting – effectively marrying traditional telephony with modern cloud collaboration.

Users will gain access to Zoom's collaboration tools including:

Zoom Docs - a versatile document creation and editing tool
Zoom Whiteboard - a digital canvas for interactive team collaboration
Zoom Clips - a practical video messaging feature

Moreover, the integration of Zoom's AI Companion across the platform promises to revolutionise content creation, prioritisation and information retrieval, all within the communication interface.

This means that the hybrid architecture allows organisations to maintain control over their critical systems and telecommunications infrastructure as well as leverages existing investments.

Chief Sales Officer at Mitel, David Petts

David Petts, Chief Sales Officer at Mitel, says: “In today's rapidly changing workplace, staying connected through video, chat or voice is more important than ever and a vital part of business continuity planning.

“Mitel's strategic partnership with Zoom has produced an offering that provides seamless access to these solutions while enabling compliance and security control in the most demanding use cases, industries and geographies.

“With the integration of Zoom's AI Companion, it's a winning combination for organisations looking for an elevated collaboration experience that truly fits their overall communication needs.”

Blending on-premises and cloud capabilities

Zoom and Mitel’s solution offers businesses the flexibility to navigate the adoption of technologies like AI while maintaining essential security and business continuity – aligning with the increasing preference for cloud-based communications among organisations looking to modernise.

Furthermore, the certification of Mitel's OpenScape Session Border Controller enables compatibility with Zoom's Bring-Your-Own-PBX and Bring-Your-Own-Carrier direct routing capabilities, which allow organisations to utilise existing telephony infrastructure seamlessly with Zoom services.
