Ericsson and Google Cloud unveil On-Demand, a SaaS core network platform spanning 42 cloud regions, enabling telcos to scale rapidly and securely

Ericsson, in partnership with Google Cloud, has introduced Ericsson On-Demand, a pioneering software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that delivers carrier-grade core network services to communications service providers (CSPs) via the public cloud.

The launch represents a significant shift for the telecommunications sector, where operators have traditionally hesitated to migrate core network functions to public cloud environments due to reliability and operational complexity concerns.

Cloud-native agility meets telecom reliability

Ericsson On-Demand is engineered to combine the flexibility of the public cloud with the robust reliability expected of telecom networks. Built on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and leveraging Google Cloud’s advanced AI infrastructure, the platform enables CSPs to provision core network services in minutes rather than weeks and scale capacity instantaneously to meet peak demand.

Ericsson manages the solution end-to-end, freeing CSPs from the burden of infrastructure management and allowing them to focus on innovation and service delivery.

Key features and capabilities:
  • Rapid provisioning: CSPs can launch and expand core network services swiftly, supporting faster roll-outs of private wireless, fixed wireless access (FWA) and wide-area enterprise networks.
  • Elastic scalability: The platform supports seamless scaling, allowing operators to adjust resources dynamically without upfront capital expenditure or overprovisioning.
  • Consumption-based pricing: Transparent, pay-as-you-grow billing ensures CSPs only pay for the capacity they use, with no hidden infrastructure or licensing fees.
  • Integrated AI and automation: Ericsson’s Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams, assisted by AI models, provide 24/7 management, troubleshooting and lifecycle automation, reducing operational overhead and accelerating time-to-resolution.
  • Security and compliance: Geo-restricted deployments, identity and access management (IAM) policies and cloud-native firewalls are built in, supporting evolving data sovereignty and regulatory requirements.
  • Global reach: With Google Cloud’s infrastructure spanning 42 cloud regions and more than two million miles of terrestrial and subsea fibre, CSPs can deploy services close to their customers for optimal performance and compliance.

A platform for ambition and innovation

Ericsson On-Demand is positioned as a catalyst for telco transformation.

Eric Parsons, VP Head of Emerging Segments, Cloud Software and Services at Ericsson

Eric Parsons, VP Head of Emerging Segments, Cloud Software and Services at Ericsson, highlights: “Ericsson On-Demand is more than a product; it’s an enabler of ambition. Today’s CTOs must move fast, scale smart and lead their organisations into new commercial territory.

"On-demand removes the risk and complexity holding them back. It gives them the agility to outpace market change, the confidence to innovate without compromise and the clarity to seize opportunities that were previously just out of reach.

"Choosing On-Demand is a bold signal of leadership and a commitment to future-ready growth.”

Muninder Singh Sambi, Vice President and General Manager of Networking and Security at Google Cloud

Muninder Singh Sambi, Vice President and General Manager of Networking and Security at Google Cloud, adds: “With Ericsson On-Demand on Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure, CSPs can rapidly deploy 5G core and tap into new revenue streams. The partnership with Ericsson isn’t just about technology; it’s about building the AI-driven telecom of tomorrow for our customers."

Enabling seamless evolution and market expansion

The platform’s cloud-native architecture allows CSPs to introduce new features incrementally, avoiding the costly downtime typically associated with legacy upgrades. Its secure-by-design approach ensures compliance with local regulations and data sovereignty requirements, making it suitable for global deployments.

Ericsson On-Demand initially targets smaller core deployments, but its roadmap includes support for wide-area enterprise networks and additional use cases as the service expands globally.

Powered by Google Cloud, it marks a new era for telcos seeking to modernise their core networks.

Ericsson empowers CSPs to innovate, scale and compete with unprecedented speed and assurance by delivering telecom-grade reliability, cloud flexibility and AI-driven automation in a fully managed SaaS model.
