Global Telecom Subsea Cable Lands in the Philippines

Globe Telecom, a telecommunications provider based in the Philippines, is set to play a central role in a high-profile subsea cable initiative that will enhance transpacific data connectivity.
It has been confirmed that the MYUS subsea cable, owned by Hexa Capital Consultancy, will land at its cable landing station in Davao City, situated in the southern region of the Philippines.
The MYUS cable, expected to be operational by mid-2028, will establish a critical link between Malaysia and the United States, with multiple landing points across Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
The system will land in Oregon and Guam in the US, Jakarta, Batam and Balikpapan in Indonesia and Davao City in the Philippines.
Davao City: A growing hub for subsea infrastructure
Davao City, located in the province of Davao del Sur, is a strategic location for subsea infrastructure.
With an estimated population exceeding two million, the city has demonstrated consistent growth and increasing importance in the regional digital ecosystem.
KD Dizon, Head of Globe Business at Globe Telecom, says: “We look forward to a long-term relationship hosting MYUS at our premier landing station in Davao.
“Our cable landing facilities offer diverse route connectivity to global and regional carriers. The access to customers utilising our robust state-of-the-art network should give confidence to operators looking to interconnect with domestic and international constituents.”
The city already hosts the SEA-US cable, while other high-capacity cables such as Apricot, ACC-1 and Bifrost are scheduled to land in the coming years, positioning Davao as a regional telecommunications hub.
Technical scope and strategic importance
The MYUS cable will feature 16 fibre pairs along its main branch.
While specific capacity metrics have not been disclosed, the infrastructure is being built to support large-scale data transmission for hyperscalers, cloud service providers, content delivery networks, telecom carriers and government clients.
Dr Azhair Aband Hadari, Founder and CEO of Hexa Capital Consultancy, explains: “The MYUS cable is being designed specifically to provide trusted and reliable direct fibre connectivity between these locations.
“It is built with the needs of large hyperscaler, cloud, content, telecom carriers and government customers in mind.”
The cable’s owner, Hexa Capital Consultancy, is a telecommunications startup that intends to sell its fibre pairs to long-term owners, thereby opening the door for a wide variety of strategic partnerships and commercial opportunities.
Globe Telecom’s expanding role in regional infrastructure
Globe Telecom operates the country’s largest mobile network and continues to expand its infrastructure footprint to support growing regional demand for digital services.
The company’s shareholders include Ayala Corporation and Singtel, reflecting its solid financial and operational foundation.
Earlier in the year, Globe completed the sale of 154 telecommunications towers to Miescor for US$242 million. The transaction formed part of a larger tower monetisation strategy first announced in August 2022, involving the total sale of 5,709 cellular towers.
The initiative has enabled Globe to reinvest capital into core network enhancements and new ventures, including critical subsea partnerships such as MYUS.
Enabling global data flows and digital transformation
As demand for low-latency, high-capacity data transmission accelerates, especially across the Asia-Pacific corridor, the MYUS cable represents a significant step forward.
For businesses with transpacific operations, government agencies requiring secure bandwidth and content providers seeking reliable delivery routes, MYUS aims to deliver a new standard in direct fibre connectivity.
Through its role as the landing partner in Davao City, Globe Telecom is contributing to national digital resilience and reinforcing its status as a key player in the global subsea cable ecosystem.
The partnership with Hexa signals a forward-looking strategy that leverages Globe’s existing infrastructure and regional reach to meet the ever-growing connectivity needs of today’s digital economy.
