Enhanced connectivity for Silverstone's visitors

The new network is set to replace the temporary mobile infrastructure that Silverstone has previously relied on during racing seasons.

Historically, these short-term solutions struggled to provide consistent performance due to the high demand from thousands of spectators, broadcasters and race teams.

The previous systems were not designed to cope with the massive number of connections during peak times, leading to network congestion and signal drop-outs.

The 5G system which is being introduced by Boldyn will address these challenges by providing continuous and reliable coverage, not only during major events but throughout the entire year.

With the capability to support all UK mobile network operators, the network promises faster speeds and a smoother, more reliable experience for everyone at Silverstone.

This ensures that fans, whether sharing social media posts, streaming content or engaging in live interactions, will have uninterrupted service no matter the size of the crowd.

Stuart Pringle OBE, CEO of Silverstone

Stuart Pringle OBE, CEO of Silverstone, says: “With more than 1.5 million visitors each year, reliable mobile connectivity is essential to the customer experience at Silverstone.

“This new network delivers the performance and resilience we need to support fans, customers and partners and allows us to share information and unforgettable iconic moments that will enhance their visit.

“We’re delighted to be working with Boldyn to bring world-class connectivity to everyone who comes through our gates.”

A future-proof infrastructure

The 5G network at Silverstone leverages advanced connectivity technology to meet the growing demand for high-capacity mobile services.

Boldyn will deploy a state-of-the-art hybrid active Distributed Antenna System (DAS), replacing the temporary infrastructure that had been used previously.

By installing this permanent system, the venue will enjoy better performance and improved operational efficiency, reducing the need for seasonal setup and teardown.

The hybrid DAS network spans 25 locations around the circuit, with 57 high-capacity sectors distributed across 87 DAS zones.

These upgrades ensure that connectivity remains strong, even during peak attendance.

For instance, the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix saw 164,000 spectators attending the race alone, with more than 500,000 total visitors throughout the entire event.

Brendan O’Reilly, CEO UK & Ireland of Boldyn Networks

Brendan O’Reilly, CEO UK & Ireland of Boldyn Networks, says: “As the legendary home of the British Grand Prix and the venue for the first Formula 1 World Championship over 75 years ago, Silverstone is a place where excitement and expectations are at their highest every race weekend.

“Boldyn is very proud to be supporting this iconic venue with connectivity infrastructure built to match its world-famous reputation.

“The deployment will provide Silverstone with a future-ready mobile network designed to continue pleasing fans, teams and broadcasters for years to come.”

Connectivity beyond the race weekend

While the primary focus of the new network is to enhance the experience during major events like the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, it also offers significant benefits year-round.

The network will improve connectivity for all visitors to Silverstone, whether they are attending the venue for the karting facility, staying at the Escapade accommodation or attending a conference or event at The Wing.

The 5G infrastructure ensures that Silverstone can cater to a broad spectrum of activities, making it not only a hub for motorsport but also a venue for a variety of other events that require reliable connectivity.

This is crucial as the demand for seamless, high-speed mobile service continues to increase, especially as more visitors expect to stay connected during all types of activities.

The permanent network also supports operational needs, ensuring that Silverstone's staff and event organisers can rely on stable, high-speed communication tools throughout the year.

Setting the stage for the future

The introduction of this 5G network is a major step forward in Silverstone’s long-term digital strategy.

The venue, known for hosting some of the world’s most prestigious motorsport events, now has the infrastructure to keep pace with the demands of modern technology.

This permanent 5G system will allow Silverstone to offer world-class connectivity to its visitors, teams and media, reinforcing its position as a cutting-edge venue capable of supporting large-scale events.

Silverstone is not only enhancing its current offerings but also preparing for future developments in the world of motorsport and beyond.

With this robust 5G foundation, the venue is well-equipped to handle evolving connectivity needs, ensuring it remains a top-tier location for global events for many years to come.
