How Colt is Expanding its Transpacific Telco Footprint

Colt Technology Services has announced plans to launch new international routes connecting the US West Coast to Asia.
The move marks the next phase of its global network expansion and centres on a new transpacific subsea cable linking the US and Japan.
Building on Colt’s footprint as a major European B2B fibre provider, the expansion extends the company's reach into a broader global telco role. The investment supports its recent network expansion, linking fibre routes in the US East Coast with Europe.
By adding long-distance capacity between key economic regions, the company is enhancing how enterprises, cloud providers and financial institutions connect across continents.
Colt's announcement forms part of a wider strategy to reinforce international connectivity through high-capacity fibre and subsea systems.
Building capacity across transpacific networks
A new backbone route will be delivered through Juno, a subsea cable system that will connect Tokyo in Japan with Los Angeles on the US West Coast.
Integrating this new route with its terrestrial fibre networks in both Japan and the US means Colt will be creating a more diverse and resilient network architecture.
The company is also extending its ‘on-net’ capabilities in Tokyo, which are locations directly connected to a provider’s own network, allowing customers to access services without relying on third-party infrastructure.
Colt can connect directly into multiple sites across Tokyo, including key metro data centres, which house servers and networking equipment in major urban areas.
This direct connectivity supports higher bandwidth, which is essential as telco providers manage growing traffic loads across international routes.
Meeting telco demand from AI and cloud traffic
Colt’s investment responds to rising demand across telco networks, especially from AI workloads and cloud-based services. These applications generate large volumes of data that move between regions, placing pressure on existing infrastructure.
Congestion on transpacific routes presents a key challenge as when networks reach capacity, users experience latency. This issue translates into performance degradation and increased operational risk for telco operators and enterprise customers.
The new routes aim to address these constraints by offering secure, high-performance alternatives for routing traffic. In some sectors like financial services, consistent low latency is critical, as well as for hyperscalers and neocloud providers that depend on reliable global connectivity.
By improving routing options, Colt will enable customers to balance traffic loads more effectively across its network, which reduces reliance on any single path and improves service continuity during peak demand periods.
Strengthening resilience and global reach
Network resilience remains a central focus of the expansion, as Colt’s approach combines subsea and terrestrial infrastructure to create multiple layers of redundancy.
