Saudi Aramco has partnered with AWS, Nvidia, Qualcomm and more in US$90bn agreements to drive AI, 5G and digital innovation across the energy sector

Saudi Aramco, the world’s fourth-largest company by revenue, has taken a significant step to support its growth, innovation and cleaner energy goals.

In a landmark initiative, the energy giant has formalised 34 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements with leading US companies across various industries.

Collectively, these agreements represent an estimated value of US$90bn.

The move strengthens Aramco’s already substantial presence in the US market while reinforcing its ambition to lead in digital transformation, industrial innovation and decarbonisation across the energy sector.

The newly signed agreements, which span artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, liquified natural gas (LNG), procurement and manufacturing, are designed to expand a relationship that has existed for more than 90 years.

As Aramco officials explain, the initiatives aim to “enhance shareholder value and foster further collaboration and innovation in the energy sector and beyond”.

Amin H. Nasser, President and CEO of Saudi Aramco

Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser said: “These announcements show the breadth and depth of Aramco’s long history of partnerships with US companies since the first discovery of oil in the Kingdom more than 90 years ago.”

“Our US-related activities have evolved over the decades and now include multi-disciplinary R&D, the Motiva Refinery in Port Arthur, start-up investments, potential collaborations in LNG and ongoing procurement.

"As Aramco pursues an ambitious value-driven growth strategy, we believe that aligning with world-class partners supports further development of our operations, strategic diversification of our portfolio, industrial innovation and ongoing capability development within the Kingdom.”

Partnerships with US giants drive transformation

Key players in Aramco’s latest collaboration round include several of the world’s most influential technology companies.

The agreements aim to build robust digital and industrial capabilities.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): Aramco is working with AWS under a non-binding strategic framework that promotes digital transformation and carbon-reduction initiatives, laying the foundation for a more connected, sustainable energy infrastructure.
  • Nvidia: A wide-ranging MoU will see Aramco and Nvidia co-develop advanced Industrial AI platforms. These include building AI enterprise ecosystems, creating a dedicated AI Hub, developing engineering and robotics centres of excellence, and collaborating with Nvidia’s start-up network to accelerate innovation.
  • Qualcomm: In collaboration with Aramco Digital, Qualcomm aims to explore strategic use cases for on-device AI and industrial 5G connectivity. These include integration across rugged edge devices such as robots, drones, cameras and IoT systems using Aramco Digital’s 450MHz industrial network.
  • Honeywell UOP: Aramco has signed an MoU with Honeywell UOP to licence technology for an advanced aromatics project. Honeywell’s expertise in refining and petrochemical processes is expected to modernise Aramco’s downstream operations further.

Other companies involved in Aramco’s broader agreement portfolio include SLB (formerly Schlumberger), Baker Hughes, Emerson, Honeywell, GE Vernova, Nabors and KBR.

Each reflects Aramco’s commitment to existing relationships with strategic partners across its industrial and energy footprint.

A longstanding digital alliance

While the recent announcements signal new directions, Aramco’s relationship with US technology is anything but new.

It has invested in American technology, research and procurement for decades, particularly in areas like cloud computing, AI, procurement systems and financial technologies.

These investments form the backbone of Aramco’s continued digital transformation and underpin Saudi Arabia’s broader technological ambitions.

Speaking at the Global AI Summit 2024, Aramco’s Chief Technology Officer, Ahmad Al-Khowaiter, highlighted the transformative role of technology.

“I am confident that Aramco’s investment in AI technologies will completely transform the way we operate,” he said.

“Through the partnerships we build, the problems we solve together and the power we supply, Aramco can help the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia become not only an energy leader but an AI leader too.”

A strategic shift with global implications

For telecommunications and digital infrastructure providers, Aramco’s technology-forward posture represents an opportunity to engage in some of the world’s most ambitious industrial digitalisation efforts.

With cutting-edge AI, advanced connectivity solutions and next-generation infrastructure at the core of its vision, Aramco is reshaping the future of energy through digital collaboration on a global scale.

Telcos seek to align with the momentum to benefit from new business opportunities and be part of a transformative era in global energy and technology integration.
