Sunrise has become the first telco operator to commercially deploy Egardia's Smart Home Security platform, opening new subscription revenue opportunities

Operators are searching for services that keep subscribers engaged long after they've signed a contract, with the connected home emerging as one of the sector's most promising growth areas.

Swiss telecommunications provider Sunrise is betting on this opportunity, becoming the first operator to commercially deploy Egardia's wholesale Smart Home Security platform.

Instead of spending years developing its own end-to-end security ecosystem, Sunrise has adopted a branded home security service using a platform designed specifically for telco providers.

The rollout marks the first commercial implementation of Egardia's international wholesale strategy.

It further reflects how operators are looking beyond traditional connectivity to generate recurring subscription revenues and improve customer retention.

Making smart home security easier to launch

While demand for connected home services continues to grow, bringing a professional Smart Home Security proposition to market has often proved difficult for telco operators.

Building a complete service typically requires significant investment in cloud technology, device integration, customer support and specialist operational expertise that sits outside many operators' core capabilities.

Egardia's wholesale platform has been developed to remove those barriers.

Instead of building and operating a security platform from scratch, operators can introduce a fully branded Smart Home Security service while relying on Egardia's technology and operational infrastructure behind the scenes.

Robin Rietveld, CEO of Egardia, says: "The telecom industry is evolving rapidly.

"Consumers increasingly expect their telecom provider to deliver more than connectivity.

"They are looking for trusted digital services that protect and simplify everyday life.

"Until now, building a professional security proposition required significant investments and specialised expertise.

"Our wholesale platform enables operators to enter this market much faster while maintaining full ownership of their customer relationship."

That means telco operators have the opportunity to expand their portfolios with subscription-based services that complement broadband and mobile offerings.

In doing so, they can also avoid the complexity of managing multiple technology partners or developing proprietary security systems.

Sunrise leads Egardia's wholesale strategy

Sunrise's deployment provides a live example of how telco operators can add connected home services without undertaking lengthy development programmes or building dedicated security operations.

The launch also marks an important milestone for Egardia.

Since introducing one of Europe's first connected DIY alarm systems under the WoonVeilig brand in 2008, the company has gradually shifted from selling directly to consumers towards supporting telecom operators as a technology partner.

That experience has now been consolidated into a wholesale platform built for large-scale operator deployments, allowing providers to launch Smart Home Security services under their own brands while retaining ownership of the customer relationship.

Following the Sunrise deployment, Egardia is now engaging with telecom operators across Europe that are looking to diversify recurring revenues and strengthen customer loyalty through connected home services.
