Turkcell & Huawei Hit 50 Gbps in Global 1st Radio Link Test

In a landmark collaboration, Turkcell and Huawei have achieved a global industry milestone by completing the worldâs first field trial of the Full Duplex Radio Link solution, reaching a wireless transmission speed of 50 Gbps on a single E-band (80 GHz) link.
The innovation represents a significant leap in wireless communication technology and highlights both organisationsâ commitment to advancing 5G infrastructure and accelerating digital transformation across TĂŒrkiye.
Pioneering wireless technology in the e-band spectrum
Turkcell, TĂŒrkiyeâs leading technology and telecommunications operator, partnered with Huawei to test a revolutionary Full Duplex Radio Link.
The successful trial demonstrates how cutting-edge technology can deliver ultra-high-speed connectivity by enabling simultaneous data transmission and reception over the same frequency. Traditionally, wireless systems have operated on separate transmit and receive frequencies to avoid interference.
Still, the Full Duplex model challenges the paradigm by leveraging a high-isolation integrated antenna structure and advanced interference mitigation algorithms.
The testâs outcome was clear: a wireless link capable of reaching 50 Gbps, a speed that would enable approximately 10,000 users to simultaneously access voice and data services over a 5G network.
Driving digital infrastructure development in TĂŒrkiye
Commenting on the trial, Prof. Dr. Vehbi ĂaÄrı GĂŒngör, Chief Technology Officer of Turkcell, highlighted the developmentâs long-term national significance.
âAs Turkcell, our goal is to expand fibre deployment and strengthen our network through next-generation radio link technologies. With this vision, we aim to provide fast, sustainable and efficient connectivity across broad coverage areas, from rural zones to geographically challenging regions,â he said.
âThis test conducted in collaboration with Huawei is a concrete reflection of our vision to prepare TĂŒrkiyeâs digital infrastructure for the future. Thanks to Full Duplex technology, we will be able to respond more effectively to our usersâ increasing data demands with speeds reaching up to 50 Gbps.â
Prof. Dr GĂŒngör went on to outline that the breakthrough offers more than just speed, describing it as a strategic step forward in enabling TĂŒrkiye to meet the rapidly growing demand for data-heavy applications such as video streaming, augmented reality (AR) and low-latency industrial use cases.
Huawei: enabling TĂŒrkiyeâs digital future
Huawei, a global technology powerhouse with a 23-year presence in TĂŒrkiye, played a central role in developing and implementing the Full Duplex Radio Link solution. With operations in over 170 countries and a global workforce of more than 208,000 employees, Huawei brings deep expertise and advanced R&D capabilities.
“Both brands remain firmly committed to supporting Türkiye’s digital transformation journey and contributing to the country’s efforts to achieve global leadership in the digital age. We are honoured to realise the world’s first Full Duplex Radio Link solution together with Turkcell.”
In reaffirmed Huawei's commitment to TĂŒrkiyeâs long-term digital success, James James Zeng, President of Huaweiâs Radio Link Product Line said: âAchieving 50 Gbps over E-band is not only accelerating TĂŒrkiyeâs digital transformation but also laying the groundwork for the 5G infrastructure.
"At the same time, this advancement forms a robust foundation to support economic growth and societal development."
Full Duplex Radio link: Transforming in wireless networks
The Full Duplex Radio Link solution represents a radical improvement in spectrum efficiency for microwave backhaul. By allowing microwave links to send and receive data concurrently over a single frequency, the solution maximises data throughput and significantly reduces spectrum usageâa critical advantage as operators prepare for massive 5G deployments and edge computing requirements.
Its ability to deliver higher capacity while maintaining robust network performance makes it a valuable asset for telecommunications providers seeking scalable, high-performance infrastructure capable of serving densely populated urban areas as well as remote regions.
