Vodafone's Travel eSIM is now available in 206 destinations on 700 networks, offering fast setup, GenAI support and up to 150GB data for global travellers

Vodafone has unveiled a new digital travel platform powered by its enhanced Travel eSIM service, making it immediately available in 206 destinations across more than 700 global networks.

The launch marks a significant step forward in cross-border mobile data connectivity and digital service integration, targeting consumer convenience and industry innovation.

The platform is open to users on any mobile network, providing flexible, affordable access to mobile data while travelling.

By removing the need for physical SIM cards and lengthy activation processes, Vodafone is setting a new standard for seamless international mobile connectivity.

A digital-first experience

Vodafone’s offering is centred on a fully digital experience. Travellers using eSIM-compatible smartphones, tablets, or laptops can install and activate their data plan within 90 seconds.

“With our new digital platform, we are offering users of all networks across the world a worry-free, easy-to-use travel experience in more than 200 countries,” says Margherita Della Valle, CEO of Vodafone. “The Vodafone Travel eSIM service is set to be the ideal international data service for any mobile user.”

Once installed, the eSIM allows users to keep their primary number while accessing high-speed mobile data abroad. It supports everything from navigation and messaging to translation tools and video calling.

Broad coverage, flexible plans and GenAI-powered support

The service includes 5G coverage in 98 countries and offers data packages ranging from 1GB to 150GB, with options to extend usage for up to 90 days. It includes Hotspot functionality, enabling multiple devices to connect through a single plan.

In parallel, Vodafone has integrated GenAI-powered customer service via its multilingual virtual assistant, SuperTOBI. This enhances the overall support experience by handling complex queries faster and more effectively than standard chatbots.

SuperTOBI is a key part of Vodafone’s digital-first strategy. It uses generative AI to increase engagement and improve customer satisfaction, which is particularly valuable for travellers who may require immediate, multilingual assistance in unfamiliar locations.

Capturing growing eSIM demand across global markets

The new Travel eSIM is Vodafone’s answer to a rising trend in digital travel services and eSIM adoption. Market forecasts predict global spending on eSIM services will grow from US$2.5bn today to nearly US$7.9bn by 2028.

Vodafone’s research reinforces this trajectory, revealing that 84% of surveyed consumers would consider using an eSIM-based travel service if it proves cost-effective, convenient and allows number retention.

Vodafone’s infrastructure, reach and trusted brand position make it well-suited to capture this opportunity, particularly in partnership with other global platforms.

Through strategic alliances, the platform will include complementary offerings, such as travel insurance and loyalty promotions. The first is with Uber One, which is now bundling Vodafone’s Travel eSIMs in 44 European countries as part of its member benefits programme.

Implications for the telecommunications industry

Vodafone’s Travel eSIM launch reinforces the strategic relevance of eSIM technology as roaming expectations shift toward digital-first solutions. The expansion of eSIM support and the integration of GenAI reflect broader moves within telecoms to merge infrastructure strength with platform-based customer experiences.

For other operators and infrastructure providers, Vodafone’s model offers a compelling case for scaling eSIM solutions globally, not just as a roaming replacement but as a new digital revenue stream.

From mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) to travel service aggregators, clear partnership and integration opportunities are emerging.

As global demand for on-the-move data grows, operators who adapt to the digital connectivity lifecycle — acquisition, activation and support — benefit most.
