Vonage extends Silent Authentication and SIM Swap APIs across major US carriers, with enterprises using carrier-verified signals to counter fraud

Vonage, a part of Ericsson, is making its fraud prevention Network APIs available across all major US carriers, opening access for enterprises and developers seeking new ways to manage identity risk. Customers, including Freenow, a part of Lyft and Persona, are already using the capabilities following the commercial launch. The company states that it is the first to offer Silent Authentication and SIM Swap APIs at this scale, positioning mobile network data as a direct input into application security functions.

Rising levels of identity-related fraud remain a concern for organisations in the United States, affecting 84% of businesses and touching 77% of consumers within the past year.

The trends continue to influence demand for verification tools that reduce exposure to fraud while simplifying user interaction. Vonage aims to address the demand by providing developers with network-level trust signals that seamlessly integrate into customer flows without requiring additional steps for end users.

Vonage Silent Authentication enters full US carrier coverage

Silent Authentication from Vonage validates a user’s phone number within an application session. By drawing directly from carrier-verified information, it removes reliance on SMS one-time passcodes, which remain open to social engineering and interception.

Existing deployments of the API have achieved authentication times that are three to five times faster than those using SMS codes, with conversion rates up to 8% higher.

Christophe Van de Weyer, President and Head of Business Unit API at Vonage

Christophe Van de Weyer, President and Head of Business Unit API at Vonage, says the company is “breaking new ground” through the nationwide rollout.

He says: “Leveraging real-time network intelligence, our APIs enable developers to embed cutting-edge fraud prevention capabilities and identity verification within applications, enabling enterprises to mitigate an increasingly complex fraud landscape and provide their end users with frictionless digital experiences.”

These capabilities reflect a broader shift within the telecommunications sector in which network information is being made available to external developers through standardised interfaces.

For Vonage, the objective is to transform this information into operational signals that enterprises can utilise without establishing direct carrier integrations of their own.

SIM Swap signals broaden fraud detection options for enterprises

Alongside Silent Authentication, Vonage is launching SIM Swap detection across the major US carriers.

The API identifies recent changes to SIM cards and produces signals that can highlight possible account takeover attempts.

It references industry data showing a more than 1,000% rise in unauthorised SIM swaps, with SIM Swap detection improving fraud identification by 30% to 40% in existing deployments.

Sasha Dobrolioubov, VP of Partnerships at Persona

Sasha Dobrolioubov, VP of Partnerships at Persona: “At Persona, we’re constantly exploring innovative solutions and partnerships that help our customers streamline user experiences without compromising security.

“By gaining access to advanced mobile network capabilities across the major U.S. carriers, we’re extending our reach and strengthening our ability to detect and prevent fraud.

We’re thrilled about how our partnership with Vonage will unlock new signals to empower our customers to catch ever more complex fraud.”

Persona’s deployment reflects a broader pattern of identity-verification platforms looking to bring network-sourced information into risk assessments, aligning fraud controls with telecommunications infrastructure rather than relying solely on device or behavioural data.

IDC and Aduna frame the market impact of Vonage APIs

Courtney Munroe, Research Vice President for Worldwide Telecommunications Research at IDC, stated:

“The launch of Vonage Silent Authentication and SIM Swap APIs across the major U.S. carriers represents a significant milestone in the industry,” said Courtney Munroe, Research Vice President, Worldwide Telecommunications Research, IDC.

“By leveraging real-time network intelligence, Vonage is setting a new standard for fraud prevention and secure digital interactions. This innovation not only addresses the growing challenges of identity-related fraud but also enhances the customer experience by providing seamless and frictionless authentication solutions.”

Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Aduna

Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Aduna commented: “The collaboration between telcos, aggregators and developer platform providers is pivotal in shaping the future of digital security. Aduna, a joint venture between major telecom players, acts as an aggregator of mobile network API capabilities.

"As a developer platform partner, Vonage then provides developers access to these tools through its APIs and SDKs, enabling them to build innovative fraud prevention solutions.

"We are excited to see Vonage launch its fraud prevention network APIs across the US and the progress this represents for the ecosystem.”

As enterprises continue to assess exposure to fraud and evaluate new ways to secure user interactions, the introduction of carrier-verified signals through commercial APIs adds another option to the market.

For Vonage, the nationwide rollout marks an expanded role in how telecommunications data interfaces with application development, bringing network-level insight into environments where fraud risk management is now a core operational requirement.
