TAK Broadband Acquires GSI to Expand Southern California

TAK Broadband, a leading telecommunications and broadband service provider in the US, has strengthened its position in the high-demand Southern California market through the acquisition of Gulbranson Services, Inc (GSI). The move illustrates TAK’s strategic approach to growth through both organic expansion and targeted acquisitions in the broadband communications sector.
A strategic addition to TAK’s operations
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, TAK Broadband delivers fibre and broadband services, last-mile connectivity and local infrastructure solutions for the telecommunications and broadband industries. It has consistently expanded its capabilities across more than 40 states, offering services ranging from network construction and design to maintenance and fibre “drop” services.
Gulbranson Services, Inc, established in 2005 and located in Victorville, California, specialises in underground cable installation, network troubleshooting and fibre connection build-outs for homes on behalf of top-tier telecommunications providers. Its expertise in drop and construction services complements TAK’s portfolio and provides a valuable operational boost for its California expansion.
Trent Edwards, CEO of TAK, emphasised the strategic value of the acquisition:
“We have great respect for the business Bob DeLaHoussaye built and the GSI team will be a valuable addition to the TAK platform. GSI is an experienced drops and construction services provider that will bolster TAK's California operations.”
GSI’s founder, Bob DeLaHoussaye, will remain actively involved during the transition, ensuring seamless integration and support for both teams as they align with TAK’s operational standards.
Expanding regional reach and capabilities
Historically, GSI has served Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Through the acquisition, TAK will broaden its reach across the entirety of Southern California, enabling it to provide more extensive broadband connectivity in key high-demand regions. The expanded footprint supports TAK’s strategy of increasing service diversity, improving operational efficiency and accelerating project delivery timelines for its telecommunications clients.
The broadband communications market remains highly fragmented and TAK’s acquisition of GSI demonstrates a clear commitment to consolidation in the sector. By combining TAK’s national infrastructure with GSI’s regional expertise, the company can meet growing demand for high-speed connectivity and fibre deployment across a critical geographic area.
Backed by Platinum Equity
In 2024, TAK Broadband was acquired by Platinum Equity, bringing additional operational expertise and financial support to drive its next phase of growth. TAK CEO Micah Mauney reflected on the partnership:
“I am proud of everything we have built over the last 20 years and am confident Platinum will be an outstanding partner for our next phase of growth. Platinum’s operations expertise is well suited to help us take the next step in delivering the very best customer experience, growing our amazing team members and strengthening our goal in building America’s best communication services provider for our current and future customers.”
Platinum Equity Co-President Jacob Kotzubei and Managing Director Dan Krasner highlighted the strategic rationale behind TAK’s acquisition strategy:
“Part of our investment thesis with TAK is to pursue accretive tuck-in acquisitions that help diversify the company's customer base and increase its recurring revenue. GSI helps advance the ball on both fronts. The broadband communications services space remains highly fragmented and we will continue working with TAK to grow both organically and through additional acquisitions.”
Operational benefits for telecommunications providers
By integrating GSI into its operations, TAK enhances its ability to deliver a full value chain of communication services, from project management and network construction to drops, fulfilment and door-to-door support. The acquisition will accelerate project delivery timelines, improve operational efficiency and enable telecommunications providers to rely on TAK as a trusted partner for critical broadband projects.
As TAK continues to expand its national footprint, the acquisition of GSI positions the company to capitalise on increasing demand for fibre installation and high-speed broadband across Southern California, while reinforcing TAK’s commitment to providing reliable, scalable and innovative network solutions to both public and private sector clients.
