DC BLOX Boosts Myrtle Beach Telecom Connectivity

DC BLOX has announced a significant expansion of its Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station (CLS), reinforcing its position as a key interconnection provider for the global telecommunications sector. The development will add substantial subsea cable capacity and increase power availability, meeting surging demand for low-latency, high-capacity network infrastructure.
Expanding a strategic telecom gateway
The expansion involves the acquisition of approximately 20 acres within the Myrtle Beach International Technology and Aerospace Park (ITAP). The additional site will support up to five new subsea cables and deliver an extra 20MW of power from the existing on-site substation.
DC BLOX launched its first Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station (MYR1) in 2023 to establish a resilient international communications gateway connecting the US with Europe, South America, the Caribbean and Africa.
MYR1 remains the largest facility of its kind on the Eastern Seaboard, serving hyperscalers, content providers and global carriers seeking reliable transoceanic connectivity.
The forthcoming MYR2 facility will extend these capabilities, complementing existing systems such as Firmina, Anjana and Nuvem. The additional subsea infrastructure will strengthen Myrtle Beach’s position as a vital hub for international data traffic and telecom backhaul routes.
“Demand for landing subsea cables in Myrtle Beach has been extraordinary and the rapid addition of new carrier partners into MYR1 has significantly enhanced the facility’s connectivity ecosystem,” says Jeff Wabik, Chief Technology Officer at DC BLOX.
“By preparing for MYR2, DC BLOX is enabling new digital infrastructure development across the region by global hyperscale companies and ensuring the continued growth of the Southeast’s digital economy.”
With exponential demand for bandwidth driven by 5G, cloud services, AI workloads and OTT content delivery, the expansion provides a critical response to the industry’s evolving network requirements.
Enabling carrier-class resilience and capacity
For telecommunications operators, the Myrtle Beach expansion represents a significant opportunity to enhance backbone infrastructure and intercontinental connectivity.
Subsea cables form the foundation of global communications and the added capacity from DC BLOX will enable carriers to manage increasing traffic from mobile networks, enterprise cloud services and edge computing.
The new facility will deliver greater route diversity and redundancy, reducing latency and mitigating risk across North Atlantic and transcontinental routes.
For network operators, it means improved service reliability and the ability to deliver higher-quality, high-availability connections to enterprise and consumer markets.
The combined MYR1 and MYR2 facilities will ultimately support up to ten subsea cables, establishing one of the most powerful telecommunications interconnection ecosystems in North America.
Strengthening regional and global telecom growth
The expansion has drawn strong support from regional stakeholders who recognise its role in boosting local and global digital economies.
“The continued growth of DC BLOX in our community is the vision presented by their leadership in 2021. DC BLOX is an extraordinary company committed to providing technology services and community partnerships as promised,” says Sandy Davis, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation.
“We are excited to have DC BLOX expand in Horry County and to house the largest facility of its kind on the Eastern Seaboard in our county. Congratulations to the DC BLOX team and thank you for choosing Horry County as your home.”
In addition to driving growth in the telecom sector, the expansion will attract new investment in network infrastructure, fostering innovation across both regional and international communications markets.
Cementing the US southeast as a telecom hub
Located adjacent to MYR1 within ITAP, the planned MYR2 facility benefits from optimal coastal geography for subsea connectivity and proximity to robust regional fibre routes.
DC BLOX’s expansion reflects a growing industry trend toward diversified landing sites across the US, distributing international connectivity more evenly and easing congestion at traditional hubs such as Miami and Virginia Beach.
As global data volumes escalate, the Myrtle Beach expansion marks a pivotal step in strengthening the digital backbone of the US and its international telecom links.
By investing in MYR2, DC BLOX is expanding its infrastructure footprint and empowering carriers, hyperscalers and cloud providers to build the next generation of global telecommunications networks.
