Dutch Telecoms Launch CAMARA Security Via GSMA Open Gateway

KPN, Odido and Vodafone have jointly launched innovative security services based on the CAMARA standard, developed in collaboration with the COIN Association and GSMA Open Gateway.
The initiative establishes a new benchmark for API security in the Netherlands, focusing on tackling online fraud and reinforcing digital protection for both businesses and consumers.
Henry Calvert, Head of Networks at the GSMA, highlights the scale of the problem: “Digital scams and fraudulent attacks are a growing problem that, if left unchecked, can cause further harm to mobile users and erode their trust in digital commerce.”
He adds that this collaboration represents a significant effort by Dutch telecoms, banks, and online retailers to use mobile network intelligence to reduce cybercrime.
CAMARA security services enhance fraud prevention in telecoms
The CAMARA-based services include ‘Number Verification’ and ‘KYC Match’, enabling rapid and secure identity verification during user logins and mobile transactions.
The capabilities assist financial institutions, e-commerce platforms and other digital service providers in identifying fraud attempts more efficiently.
Delivered through an expanding partner network, the services provide API developers and Communication Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS) specialists with flexible, scalable integration options.
The open-source CAMARA standard, powered by the Linux Foundation and GSMA, aims to unify telecom API security across networks and providers worldwide.

GSMA Open Gateway connects the global mobile ecosystem
The GSMA Open Gateway initiative supports the deployment of CAMARA by offering a scalable platform for secure API access.
It connects more than 80 mobile operator groups representing 292 mobile networks, covering more than 80% of global mobile connections.
Through the platform, digital products and services gain consistent, secure access to telecom network intelligence, enabling cross-border and multi-provider functionality.
The integration supports the creation of a trusted digital ecosystem that leverages mobile network data to safeguard users and allow service providers to operate reliably in a highly interconnected digital economy.
The Dutch telecom sector’s CAMARA deployment via the GSMA Open Gateway marks a significant step toward addressing the growing sophistication of digital threats. It reflects a growing focus across Europe on collaboration to strengthen cybersecurity infrastructures.
Henry concludes, “This is an important collaborative initiative by the Dutch telecoms industry, banks and online retailers, using the intelligence of mobile networks to help reduce cybercrime.”
