Zayo Europe has partnered with Reintel to launch high-capacity fibre across Spain and Portugal, boosting connectivity for data centres and businesses

Zayo Europe has entered into the Iberian market through a new partnership with Reintel, Spain’s leading dark fibre operator.

The collaboration extends Zayo’s 400GE-enabled wavelength network to Spain and Portugal, along with its Tier-1 IP service, bringing enhanced connectivity to the region.

Colman Deegan, CEO at Zayo Europe, says: “This partnership marks another important step in Zayo Europe’s journey to connect the continent’s most dynamic markets.

“Spain and Portugal are quickly emerging as major data centre hubs, with a strong supply of renewable energy driving new investments to power AI and other cutting-edge technologies."

Connecting Iberia’s business hubs

The new network will cover more than 3,500km of fibre, linking key cities such as Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Bilbao and Sines.

Infrastructure like this introduces high-capacity, low-latency connectivity across Iberia, helping carriers and enterprises improve network diversity and speed up service deployment.

With Zayo’s existing infrastructure reaching over 600 data centres across Europe, the Iberian expansion connects new markets to its pan-European footprint.

This enables businesses in the region to access seamless data centre to data centre (DC-to-DC) connectivity and adopt cloud services at pace.

Colman says: “We’re delighted to partner with Reintel, who operate the highest quality, mission critical fibre infrastructure in the region.

“By extending our network through their low latency, high availability fibre routes, we’re enabling enterprises, data centres and carriers across Iberia to access our extensive high-performance connectivity that underpins Europe’s innovation economy.

“Following our recent expansion in the German Market, Iberia becomes the next strategic link in furthering the reach of our pan-European network. With the significant DC rollout planned in 2026, Zayo Europe is poised to set connectivity trends for the decade ahead.”

Infrastructure to match demand

Reintel brings a nationwide dark fibre network that aligns with the demands of cloud, content and AI-driven services. These networks support data-heavy workloads and are designed for reliable and scalable performance.

Zayo’s wavelength and IP services are built to support high-throughput enterprise needs and are already deployed across key European markets.

The Iberian build connects the region to international systems through both the Atlantic and Mediterranean routes, adding new options for long-haul traffic across Europe and beyond.

Francisco J. Blanca Patón, CEO at Reintel, says: “Zayo Europe’s expansion into Iberia aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate Spain’s digital transformation.

“Combining our extensive dark fibre footprint with Zayo Europe’s international network and unparalleled service excellence creates powerful opportunities for customers across the region.”

Data centres to benefit from fibre growth

Iberia continues to attract digital infrastructure investment, this is because of its access to renewable energy and its strategic location for subsea cable landings.

With more hyperscale data centres set to be built across 2026, demand for reliable fibre is growing across Spain and Portugal.

This partnership will position both Zayo and Reintel to support that growth, offering high-performance connectivity to data centres, businesses and carriers across the peninsula.

Access to low-latency, high-capacity fibre is a key requirement for operators looking to deliver services at scale, particularly with rising interest in AI, cloud and digital content distribution.

Francisco says: “This partnership will empower data centres and businesses across Spain and Portugal to keep pace with rising data demands and ultimately, strengthen Europe’s digital backbone. We look forward to what can be achieved together through 2026 and beyond.”

Zayo’s entry into Iberia marks a new phase for its European network, adding reach, capacity and performance in two growing markets and connecting them to its wider global ecosystem.
