How are Vodafone & Nokia Collaborating to Boost Security?

Vodafone and Nokia have extended their partnership to harness 5G for app developers, enabling safer digital experiences and helping fight fraud.
The collaboration will see Nokia sell Vodafone Network APIs through its Network as Code (NaC) platform.
Using Vodafone’s global 4G and 5G networks, developers can build apps that verify identities, confirm active phone numbers and check ages.
This improves security in sectors such as banking, retail and public services. Later in 2026, Vodafone and Nokia plan to launch differentiated connectivity and location APIs to further extend these capabilities.
Expanding network APIs through NaC
From April 2026, Nokia will include Vodafone’s Network APIs within its anti-fraud and authentication products.
These tools will be available through Nokia’s NaC platform, making them accessible to developers serving businesses, public sector organisations and consumers.
Johanna Wood, Vodafone’s Director of Network APIs, says: “As Vodafone’s Network APIs reach more developers, users’ mobile experiences become safer.
“Working together with Nokia, we will give developers worldwide the resources they need to help businesses combat fraud and provide enhanced digital experiences for their customers.”
Johanna adds that the integration will simplify access to network capabilities, reducing development time and cost.
By leveraging existing 4G and 5G infrastructures, apps can be adapted for multiple markets without needing separate versions for each country.
This approach is particularly relevant for global developers seeking to deliver consistent security standards across regions.
Shkumbin Hamiti, VP of Network Monetization Platform at Nokia, says: “Through Nokia’s Network as Code platform, we are bringing together global operator capabilities so developers can innovate faster and with greater consistency.
"Partnering with Vodafone significantly expands the reach and impact of high-value network APIs that enable more secure and seamless digital services.”
The NaC is designed to connect multiple API ecosystems, already linking over 70 partners.
The platform supports robust multi-tier API security and offers operators several integration and enablement options, helping developers access network functionalities without compromising security.
How APIs enhance security
Vodafone’s network APIs cover identity and anti-fraud functions, including age checks, information verification and active phone number confirmation.
Developers can customise these APIs and integrate them directly into business apps using standard software tools and languages.
The APIs are built on the latest open-source CAMARA standards. CAMARA provides consistent, interoperable interfaces that comply with privacy and regulatory requirements while working seamlessly with modern mobile networks.
This ensures that apps using the APIs can meet local compliance rules, an essential factor for sectors such as financial services, healthcare and e-commerce.
By incorporating these APIs, developers reduce exposure to increasingly sophisticated cyber fraud.
Online threats such as account takeovers, identity theft and fraudulent transactions are becoming more complex and these tools give developers the means to protect users while improving the overall experience of their apps.
Growing the developer ecosystem
Nokia’s NaC platform expands access to Vodafone APIs for commercial adoption and monetisation.
The platform builds an ecosystem that includes developers, aggregators and operators, simplifying global deployment and enhancing interoperability.
The use of Vodafone’s 4G and 5G networks lowers the cost and complexity of adapting apps for different countries.
Developers can avoid building separate versions for each market, allowing secure, scalable services to reach users faster.
By combining Nokia’s integration capabilities with Vodafone’s network reach, the partnership accelerates the adoption of network APIs and strengthens data security across digital services.
Developers can experiment with new app features, test anti-fraud measures and deliver safer online experiences for businesses and consumers alike.
This collaboration signals a shift towards more secure and accessible network functionalities.
By making APIs available through a widely used platform like NaC, Nokia and Vodafone support developers in meeting rising security demands while helping organisations combat digital fraud more effectively.
